Panama Maritime Courts — International Jurisdiction & Advantages
Panama has two specialized Maritime Courts internationally recognized for their efficiency and broad jurisdictional reach. Panamanian law grants them authority over international maritime disputes where the parties — including the vessel itself — are international legal entities.
The Canal's heavy maritime traffic makes Panama a natural hub for shipping dispute resolution. Courts allow vessel arrests, claims against foreign companies, and litigation covering charter party breaches, cargo damage, crew wages, and supply debts. An arrest requires a US$1,000 bond and a US$2,500 custody deposit — both fully recoverable at the end of proceedings.
